The endpin hole is tapered to precisely fit the tapered pin holder. If you don't happen to have a cello endpin hole reamer in your toolbox, the alternative is about four hours of sanding using the pin itself wrapped with sandpaper. The end block is basswood, as I didn't have any willow lying around.
